The Role:
The Retail Director is responsible for leading and executing comprehensive retail strategies across a 1-3 year horizon for a portfolio of stores for 1 brand. This role will focus on developing growth strategies, optimizing brand partnerships, managing expansion efforts, and ensuring exceptional retail performance. You will be responsible for aligning with brand partners on goals, operational strategies, and customer experiences, while managing day-to-day operations and store performance to drive success on the Leap platform through your team of field managers. With responsibility for a single brand, this director can achieve depth in understanding and execution of brand & retail strategy as well as account management.
This role is classified as L6 and encompasses all competencies associated with this level.
Role Location:
This role is a hybrid office role and can be based in either San Francisco or New York City.

This role will be working specifically with a brand on the Leap platform called Rocksbox. Rocksbox’s curated collection of jewelry designers are chosen for their unique style, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality. From timeless classics to trend-forward pieces, Rocksbox works with a range of designers, as well as their in-house label who bring their individual flair to the Rocksbox assortment.
Rocksbox was founded in 2012 to transform the way customers discover and buy jewelry, and today continues to build the destination retail brand for jewelry and accessories. The Rocksbox team is cross-functional, collaborative, and positive. The Rocksbox team is passionate about using tech and data to deliver products and experiences that customers love. Rocksbox is specifically looking for an individual to bring a differentiated type or level of service anchored around the idea of styling to the brand experience.
Core Responsibilities:
Retail Performance & Operations
- Oversee the success of field leaders, ensuring financial performance, customer experience, operational and employee KPIs are consistently met.
- Manage retail store performance at a multi-market level, ensuring stores meet or exceed GMV, remittance, and profitability targets.
- Analyze and leverage key business metrics to develop strategies that drive revenue and optimize store performance.
- Partner with cross functional teams to create and implement programs focused on retail execution, customer service excellence, people development, and sales optimization.
Team Development & Management
- Lead and develop field managers (Area Managers & Multi-Unit Managers), ensuring strong leadership presence through consistent coaching and performance management.
- Foster a high-performance culture by recruiting, hiring, developing and retaining teams through recognition programs, team development initiatives, and career growth opportunities.
- Accountable for recruitment, onboarding, and team development efforts. Oversees performance cycles for managers, and supports the cycle for their respective teams ensuring talent is developed and performance goals are met.
Brand & Account Management
- Own the overall account strategy for the brand, acting as a trusted partner to the brand, taking full accountability of P&L ownership and leveraging business insights to advise on areas such as merchandising, marketing, and customer experience to boost performance.
- Facilitate executive-level meetings to align on performance and strategy, including guiding escalated conversations with the brand to come up with mutually beneficial solutions.
- Drive market expansion initiatives by identifying new locations and presenting opportunities for growth. Manage store renewals, including providing brand insights on economic terms, contract renewals, and operational commitments in partnership with growth team
- Provide thought leadership to both field leaders (Area Managers & Multi-Unit Managers) and Brand partners. Accountable for strategy planning, prioritization, brand economics, and brand billing.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence
- Drive alignment between cross-functional teams that enhance both store performance and brand success.
- Lead key internal and external meetings to drive both brand and store-level insights, performance, and feedback.
- Provide regular updates and performance reports to senior leadership, facilitating data-driven discussions and strategic action planning.
Outcomes & Measures of Success:
- Brand-level KPI achievement, remittance & profitability targets met or exceeded
- Employee retention, hiring, and employee engagement KPI's
- Brand NPS, brand renewals & expansion, reduced brand churn
Salary Range Transparency
A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range for this position is $145,000 - $165,000. All corporate roles are eligible for annual cash bonuses and equity awards based upon performance and other factors. Actual compensation offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors which may include geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level.
