Mission for the position:

As the first Payroll Manager of our Accounting and Finance team, you'll play a key role in the development of our payroll systems, processes, and capabilities including involvement in a key payroll system implementation, establishing standards within the payroll cycle, maintaining employee pay data, and much more.  The Payroll Manager will be the go-to person for all things Payroll.  The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and organizational skills that help support the accurate and timely processing of payroll, ability to balance priorities, and develop internal processes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Timely processing of bi-weekly payroll and ad hoc employee payments
  • Develop, review, and abide by company policies
  • Resolve payroll issues
  • Handling payroll-associated correspondence
  • Maintaining relevant payroll files
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates,
  • Update payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
  • Maintain employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Balance the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Determine payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer’s social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments
  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages

Qualifications – key competencies & attributes for success:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years payroll experience
  • Underlying foundation of payroll best practices and federal/state regulations
  • Familiarity with payroll software/HRIS (e.g. UKG) and MS Office (especially Excel)
  • Innate curiosity, possess a desire to learn new things, and want to grow their contribution level to the organization overtime.
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative work setting. Clearly communicates in verbal and written setting
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, able to manage and keep records and processes up to date
  • High level of comfort working in a dynamic and fast-moving workplace culture
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and self-starting working style

  • Consistent, timely execution and payment of payroll
  • Adherence to federal and state guidelines and requirements
  • Contributions to the development and implementation of Payroll workflows, systems/tools and team development
  • Contribution to the development of a team-oriented, high performance culture within the firm
  • Successful collaboration with operational peers and team members across the organization
